Drs. Michael Kosch and Judy Stephenson have announced that the SuperDARN 2020 Workshop will be held in South Africa, 31 May to 5 June. The Workshop is sponsored by the University of Kwazulu-Natal and the South African National Space Agency (SANSA). In their words: 'The location will be the Sani Pass hotel in the beautiful Drakensberg mountains. We will provide a single shuttle bus on 31 May and 5 June to/from this remote location. The venue is at high altitude in the winter, so please expect freezing but dry conditions at night, yet warm and sunny conditions in the daytime. Those venturing to the top of Sani pass into the Kingdom of Lesotho can expect freezing conditions all day with possible snow (with no skiing), but the highest pub in Africa has a solution for this.'

Synopsis of the SuperDARN Workshop:
The SuperDARN Workshop has been held annually since the inception of the SuperDARN collaboration in the 1990s. The meeting is hosted by one of the collaborating institutions and is usually held over a Monday-Friday period at the end of May or early June. The program for the first day reviews the status of the radars, new projects, and introduces technical issues for wider consideration by the SuperDARN participants. The scientific program then begins with discussion of topics of particular interest to SuperDARN researchers including presentations by outside scientists and collaborators. Over the course of the week time is allotted for the Working Groups to meet separately and discuss issues such as radar scheduling, software distribution, and coordination with spacecraft missions. The SuperDARN Executive committee, consisting of the PIs of the participating groups, meets towards the middle of the week. The proceedings are concluded on Friday with a wrap-up by the Chair of the PI committee (Prof. Kathryn McWilliams, University of Saskatchewan). Besides the formal proceedings, excursions and a banquet are arranged to give participants a chance for more relaxed discussions against scenic backdrops.
The 2019 SuperDARN Workshop was held June 2 - 7, 2019 at the Highland Resort Hotel & Spa in Fujiyoshida, Japan. The Workshop was sponsored by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), the Nagoya University Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research (ISEE), the International Center for Space Weather Science and Education Kyushu University (ICSWSE), and the University of Electro-Communications (UEC). A notable development at this workshop was the election of Prof. Kathryn McWilliams (University of Saskatchewan) to succeed Prof. Mark Lester (Universityy of Leicester) as the Chair of the PI Council.
