On May 13, 2011, Virginia Tech will confer upon A.J. Ribeiro a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. A.J. joined the Virginia Tech SuperDARN team in the Spring of 2009 as a contracted programmer and then as a Student in the Fall of 2009. Since then, he has been instrumental in developing new techniques for the determination of velocity measurements and identifying ground scatter. His first paper is in press at Radio Science. The title of his thesis is 'An examination of ionospheric plasma irregularities detected by the mid-latitude SuperDARN radars'. Congratulations, A.J.!
Also on May 13, 2011, Virginia Tech will confer upon Nathaniel Frissell a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Nathaniel joined the Virginia Tech SuperDARN team in 2008 as one of our first graduate students. He is a ham radio enthusiast and also brought with him valuable skills in IT. Nathaniel spent the Spring 2010 semester on the Svalbard archipelago taking courses and doing research at the northenmost university in the world (UNIS). Nathaniel is now enrolled in the PhD program. He has published his first paper, in Geophysical Research Letters, entitled 'First radar observations in the vicinity of the plasmasphere of pulsed ionospheric flows generated by bursty bulk flows'. Congratulations, Nathaniel!
