Blackstone Electronics to be Replaced

The new electronics destined for Blackstone have been assembled and tested at the Virginia Tech lab and are to be installed at the site between 9/19 and 9/21. Kevin Sterne and Ray Greenwald are set to be at the site with Mike Ruohoniemi and Nathaniel Frissell tentatively scheduled to be at the site on Tuesday. The hope is by the end of the day on Tuesday, Blackstone will again be providing valuable data to the mid-latitude regions! (KTS, RAG, JMR, NAF) ***************************************** |
The work of packing up and shipping back the Leicester electronics was completed on Friday, July 15th. The Leicester engineer, Mick Parsons, lead the work and was assisted by Kevin (Sunday-Monday), Bharat (all week), and Evan (Thursday-Friday). Mick declares himself well-satisfied with the condition of the equipment!
Work is proceeding on the assembly of replacement electronics at the VT Lab. It was determined while Ray was visiting over the same week that certain filters had to be replaced in the Phase Generation Units. These are now on order. Ray and Kevin with help from Rob also took steps to initialize the computer system. The Blackstone radar will remain off the air until the total rig is completed and tested.
