How to Validate Use of the SuperDARN Data
Users are welcome to download items from this and other SuperDARN websites. However, to validate and optimize their use of the data, users are asked to consult with an experienced SuperDARN researcher. This step should be taken at an early stage of the study, before results are presented publicly. This Data Validation tool assists users with identifying and contacting suitable persons.
How to validate SuperDARN data usage...
Tables of SuperDARN radars are provided below. If a radar is identified by name in the work,
tick its box, and tick as many boxes as necessary. If the work instead only makes reference to
'SuperDARN' or 'SuperDARN radars,' then leave the boxes unticked. Hitting the 'Generate Table of Contacts'
button will then generate a Table that lists contact information for each radar that has been identified.
Users are requested to contact the persons indicated to review their usage of the data and to determine
whether coauthorship is appropriate. If the work does not identify individual radars by name, the user should
use their best judgement as to which SuperDARN PI group to contact.
The Table of Contacts will be followed by text suitable to be copied and pasted into an Acknowledgements statement.
Protocol For Usage of SuperDARN Data...
The partners of the SuperDARN collaboration welcome users of the data and have made available many online tools for data visualization and retrieval. Users are requested to validate their usage by consulting with SuperDARN contact persons at an early stage of their work and to properly acknowledge the sources of SuperDARN data. This data usage tool and the accompanying data acknkowledgement tool are designed to simplify these tasks.
How to Generate Your Table of Contacts
- Select the specific radars you used in your research from the lists below
- Click "Generate table of Contacts" to create your complete contact list
- Your generated table will appear at the top of the page
The SuperDARN data set is complex and it is advisable that users consult with an expert on its applications to a particular study.
